The Olympic Torch Run
Christmas came early for Londoners as the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch made its way through the streets of London on Christmas Eve. The torch changed hands numerous times before arriving at Victoria Park. Special Olympics athlete Chris Innes had always dreamed of running with the torch and was one of many who applied for this great honour. When selected torch runner Frank Miller, director of hospitality services at UWO heard that Chris was not chosen, he personally delivered Chris his uniform and offered him his spot. The Olympic spirit continued through the remainder of the run and culminated in an uplifting last 300m to the heart of Victoria Park by John Davidson. John, father of Jesse Davidson, continued their journey as he carried the torch on behalf of his son. John’s run ended when he lit the celebration cauldron and raised the Olympic Torch to the sky in a tribute to Jesse.
